Overview
Behavioral-health emergency care must support safety and clinical workflows without making patients feel controlled or stigmatized. In a 48-hour multidisciplinary challenge, Team Purple developed an emergency-department and EmPATH expansion concept for Grady Memorial Hospital that paired a more humane spatial experience with a coordinated building-systems strategy.
Planning and care zones
The proposal accommodates distinct care zones and microclimates while supporting healthcare ventilation requirements and a compact mechanical footprint. The plan organizes emergency, support, and EmPATH functions into legible zones.
Integrated environmental systems
Ramyar contributed to architectural and engineering coordination and developed the HVAC concept: 100 percent outdoor air through a dedicated outdoor-air system, heat-recovery VRF, active chilled beams, radiant floor heating, and building-management controls for zoned operation. The team received third place.
